Bear the Hurt by Myself
Professor Wu was silent for a while. He said, “I’ll think about it.”
“That’s right, you have to change your temper,” Professor Lin said.
“Change what?” Professor Wu asked. “I think it is very good.”
…
In his clinic, Wang Yao was considering the illness of the man who suffered from anorexia. As he thought, he knew this illness would require unique treatment.
He could not see it or smell it. The treatment would also require the cooperation of the patient and his family members.
Wang Yao also prepared a drug to stimulate the man’s appetite.
Chinese yam, hawthorn…
These so-called appetizing medicinal materials were foods. Some of them were to stimulate the taste buds. This would hopefully promote a healthy appetite.
As he wrote, Wang Yao thought, He can’t just rely on medicine. Otherwise, the taste of the medicinal agent is likely to cause bad consequences. If he did not just dislike foods, and even disliked drinks and soups, it would be more troublesome.
The last time he spoke with the man, he told Wang Yao that he was able to drink some liquid food, such as chicken soup and porridge, but that was it.
Based on that, Wang Yao thought, First, he needs to drink soup to stimulate his appetite without seeing what he is eating.
Wang Yao gradually came up with a treatment plan. He prepared several herbs. They were quite simple since they were just an aid in the man’s recovery.
He called the man and asked him and his family to come the next morning for treatment.
Around dusk, Wang Yao was about to close the door and go home. Suddenly, Wang Zecheng hobbled toward the clinic entrance with an injured face.
“What’s wrong?” Wang Yao hurriedly opened the door and let him in.
“The speed was a little faster when I was riding on the road, so I fell,” Wang Zecheng said.
“It looks serious,” Wang Yao said.
“Oh, it’s OK!” Wang Zecheng bit his teeth.
He was actually experiencing severe pain. After he got off work, he rushed back from town to have a meal. After eating, he had to go back out to work at his night job. To make it there on time, he was riding faster than usual. When he was at the entry of the village, he fell while avoiding a sheep.
“Let me see.” Wang Yao carefully checked him. “Fortunately, you didn’t hurt the bones. What about your head? Does it hurt? Were you wearing a helmet?”
“I wore it. My head does not hurt. My face is just painful,” Wang Zecheng said.
If he had not been wearing a helmet, he could have suffered more severe injuries in the fall.
“I will give you some medicine.” Wang Yao got up and got some medicine.
The medicine was made in the mountains. It was effective for traumatic injuries, such as bruises. He had tried them on other patients, and it worked well.
“It may be a little painful,” Wang Yao said. He carefully applied the medicine to the injury and bandaged it.
“Oh, ah!” Wang Zecheng exclaimed.
“Come on, I will give you a massage,” Wang Yao said.
“Really?” Wang Zecheng asked.
“Yes. It promotes blood circulation to dissipate stasis,” Wang Yao said. “That will help some of the muscles on the contusion recover more quickly.”
The fall was serious, even if he didn’t hurt his bones. Some muscle tissue contusions on his body were inevitable. His body would take a few weeks to heal.
“Oh, OK,” Wang Zecheng said.
“It might be painful.” Wang Yao began to massage him with a unique technique.
“Ah, it hurts!” Wang Zecheng shouted.
“Put up with it,” Wang Yao said. He was already using light pressure.
Wang Yao massaged Wang Zecheng’s back, leg, and arm contusions. He was in so much pain that he kept quivering. If Wang Yao had not given him a piece of gauze to bite, he would have been grinding his teeth. He sweated profusely, which drenched his clothes.
“Now, go back and have a good rest. Don’t engage in heavy physical labor for seven days. Don’t work,” Wang Yao said.
“Ah, seven days?” Wang Zecheng was shocked.
“What’s the matter?” Wang Yao asked.
“But I have to work,” Wang Zecheng said.
His family relied on him for money, especially his father, whose medicine was expensive. How could he not be anxious? He had hoped to take on a third labor job to make money.
“Is it to buy medicine for your father?” Wang Yao asked.
“Yes,” Wang Zecheng said.
To afford the medicine, he was borrowing money from others. In life, most things could be easily dealt with except borrowing money.
“Take the medicine for now,” Wang Yao said. “You can pay gradually later.”
“Oh, thank you,” Wang Zecheng said as he bit his lip.
He got up to leave and was abruptly stopped.
“Wait a minute,” Wang Yao said.
“Is there something else?” Wang Zecheng said.
“I have to say a few more words, but don’t get upset,” Wang Yao said. He got up to pour a cup of tea. “Drink some tea.”
“Hey, thank you.” Wang Zecheng took the tea. He felt even more nervous. He didn’t know what Wang Yao wanted to say to him.
“As for money, it’s important, but the body is more important,” Wang Yao said.
Wang Zecheng was silent and looked him with a blank stare.
“I mean, the physical condition of your body is not suitable for work,” Wang Yao said. “If you endure the pain to work in the next few days, it may be no problem for the time being. If you get overworked, you will have physical injuries. Working while you are injured could cause small lesions to become serious illnesses. You cannot solve it by taking a breaking for seven days.”
“I know.” Wang Zecheng said. “But…”
“You don’t know, or you don’t understand it deeply.” Wang Yao quickly interrupted him. “Forget it. Think about it.”
Wang Yao originally wanted to say a few more words, but the words stopped. If he was Wang Zecheng, he might have made the same choice.
“OK, I will go home for now,” Wang Zecheng said.
“OK.” Wang Yao said.
Wang Zecheng limped away.
“Are you alright?” Wang Yilong asked as he waited at the door for his son.
“It’s nothing. You ought to go back. It is pretty windy.” Wang Zecheng said
“How are you?” His wife heard the sound and went out.
“I didn’t hurt any bones or my head. I got some medicine, so it is much better,” Wang Zecheng said.
“Don’t go to work tomorrow. You should rest at home,” his wife said.
“Let’s talk about it tomorrow,” Wang Zecheng said.
After the meal, Wang Yilong got up and went out.
“Where are you going, Dad?” Wang Zecheng asked.
“I am going out to wander around,” his father replied.
“Well, be careful, and come back early. It is pretty windy outside. You need to wear more, and don’t go far.” Wang Zecheng did not forget to offer advice.
“Oh, I know.” Wang Yilong waved his hand and slowly walked out.
“Dad has left, so tell me the truth,” Wang Zecheng’s wife said. “Are you badly hurt?”
“I’m OK,” Wang Zecheng said. “He just told me to rest at home for two days.”
“Well, you should rest then. Don’t go out,” his wife said.
“Hey, let’s talk about it tomorrow,” Wang Zecheng said with a sigh.
Wang Yao’s family was in the middle of dinner when there was knocking at the door.
Squeak!
Wang Yilong entered. “Sorry, you are having a meal.”
Since a guest arrived, Zhang Xiuying and her husband both put down their dishes.
“Hey, take a seat, Wang Yilong,” Wang Fenghua said.
Wang Yao got up and made a pot of tea. “Uncle, drink some tea.”
“Oh, thank you,” Wang Yilong said
“What’s up?” Wang Fenghua asked.
“I am looking for Xiao Yao regarding a matter,” Wang Yilong said.
“OK, Uncle.” Wang Yao said.
“Ah, Zecheng looked for you in the afternoon, right?” Wang Yilong asked.
“Yes,” Wang Yao replied.
“Is he hurt really bad?” Wang Yilong asked. “Tell me the truth.”
“There is no big problem. There is bruising and trauma to some muscle tissue, but no damage to the bones, internal organs, or head. He just needs to rest for a few days.” Wang Yao said.
